Overview
We are currently recruiting a Senior Mechanical / Electrical Design Engineer for a company based in Llantrisant, South Wales. The successful candidate can expect to achieve a salary of up to £40,000.
The Role
As a self-motivated, team player with a positive attitude, you will have end-to-end responsibility for varied design projects working in collaboration with the whole team to deliver projects on time, on budget and to a high standard. Working alongside customers to understand challenges you will provide strong technical support and propose solutions.
Duties:
• Use your experience as a hands-on technical leader in the design process providing technical guidance and direction in new product design and continuous improvement
• Ensure systems and processes are adhered to by the design team/department - planning and execution of development projects are carried out in conformance with the quality management system (ISO 9001)
• Mentoring other members in the Design Team – technically and design processes (e.g. NPI)
• Work to project plans and manage multiple deadlines and tasks accurately and reliably
• Develop new product offerings to meet the requirements of the commercial/sales team and market place
• Ability to develop products from initial concept through to volume production – providing proof of compliance and ensuring DFM (leading at every stage of the process).
• Ensure adherence to technical standards and compliance for product development and design operations
• Contribution to the evaluation of new materials, processes technologies and products.
• Assist manufacturing in all areas of production and continuous improvement of processes
• Ensure the optimal application of technology and engineering resources to meet the business and customer requirements of product platform developments
• Interface with external vendors and researchers to develop new designs and communicate design requirements.
• Design of tooling, specifications, and test methods for evaluating prototypes against engineering and customer use.
• Verification and Validation of products to ensure suitability
• Lead, complete and perform task with minimal direction.
• Create innovative technical solutions which lead to the development and introduction of new technologies, products and processes that support the ongoing business need.
• Lead/participate in NPI
• Assist in the decision making of third-party suppliers for Engineering Resources (Injection moulding etc)
• Manage third party suppliers to ensure deadlines are met and project plans run smoothly.
• Research new products and technologies, staying current on latest technology trends and solutions
• Identify and propose team training
• Undertake any other specific tasks as detailed by the Technical Director, with the ability to be flexible and adapt to change.
The Person
• Degree or equivalent in a Mechanical / Electrical Engineering discipline
• Minimum 6 years engineering experience
• Team orientated and provide strong technical support – problem solver.
• Track record of understanding new concepts and coming up with innovative ideas.
• Demonstrable product design experience – enthusiasm with a flair for innovation
• Design of a variety of products for high volume manufacture and/or High cost, low volume manufacture.
• Engineering and Industrial Design experience, balancing aesthetics and form with reliability and performance
• Proficient in the use of 3D & 2D design software
• Experience of prototyping methods: SLA/SLS, 3D printing, machining/CNC, soft tools etc
• A sound knowledge of plastics and injection moulding processes
• A sound knowledge of material choice; plastics, metals, thermal applications.
• Good understanding of Mechanical principles.
• Electrical experience – understand, interpret and create wiring diagrams
• A competent and proven ability to Lead/work within cross functional engineering teams
• A competent and proven ability to project management – utilising resource as required.
• A good understanding of working within a quality system.
• Experience of working to required product standards/product compliance.
• Analytical and problem-solving approach
• Creating BOM’s and cost sheets
• Risk management (FMEA)
• Effective organisational & decision-making skills
• Able to work seamlessly with internal and external teams
• Excellent oral, written, cross functional and interpersonal communication skills
• Demonstrates a positive attitude to change and contributes to new ideas and improved ways of working.
